Familientreffen sind eine spannende Erfahrung. Eine ähnliche Idee kam dem Journalist und Buchautor A.J. Jacobs (Wikipedia Link) als er vor einiger Zeit auf der Website Geni.com auf einen Stammbaum mit mehr als 75 Millionen Personen gestossen ist und feststellte, dass es sowohl mit Albert Einstein, Gwyneth Paltrow und vielen anderen Persönlichkeiten verwandt ist. Natürlich ist ihm bewusst, dass die Verwandtschaften keine direkten Linien sind, sondern eher über 17-18 Generationen zurück, Verwandtschaften über Tanten und Onkel oder ähnliches sind.
Trotzdem hat sich A.J. Jacobs vorgenommen, am 6. Juni 2015 in New York die Global Family Reunion, mit Unterstützung von Geni, MyHeritage, Wikitree, FamilySearch, 23andMe, Genealogists.com, Family Tree DNA zu veranstalten.

Vielleicht findet sich ja auch noch jemand der eine Branch-Party hier in Deutschland veranstalten möchte – ob wir Helmut Kohl oder Gerhard Schröder für die Veranstaltung gewinnen können, wäre aber wohl fraglich …
